Child Protection

Policy Statement Regarding Child and Vulnerable Adults Protection in Clubs

It is noted that as part of the Child and Vulnerable Adults Protection policy adopted by pentathlon-scotland that member clubs are required to have their own Child Protection Officers.

While the Board fully support the need to ensure that there is sufficient resources available to deal with any such matters it is concerned that clubs will be unable to meet this requirement given the very small numbers that participate in the sport.

The Child Protection Officer consulted with Dougie Arneil, Support worker, Child Protection in Sport Service, Children First, on this point and he recommended the Child Protection Officer acted as lead officer for pentathlon-scotland’s current clubs.

The Board has considered this proposal and are in agreement with it.

To ensure clear communication of this it was agreed by the Board that:

  1. Members of any clubs should be advised of this decision and who is acting as lead officer for child and vulnerable adult protection.
  2. People working in the clubs with children and/or vulnerable adults should still undertake the necessary training.
  3. This decision should be communicated on pentathlon-scotland’s website.
