School’s Biathlon – Awareness & Understanding
  • Awareness in the History of Sport and the two forthcoming major events in Great Britain  - London 2012 Olympic Games & Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games;
  • Encourage children to be more active and have a healthy life style by trying a multi sport;
  • Encourage children to be more aware about nutrition and how it effects their wellbeing;
  • Develop a team spirit, friendship and understanding that it is not the winning but taking part that matters; 
  • Link in with other countries around the world through the World School’s Biathlon series.
 School’s Biathlon – Competition Format
  • The event consists of two separate disciplines, the swimming and the running. Points are awarded for the times achieved in each event. The final result is the sum of the points scored in both events.
  • Swimming: A time of 40 seconds in the 50 metre swim will be awarded 1000 points. Every 0.33 second above or below this time will be worth 12 points. A time of 1 minute 14 seconds in the 100 metre swim will be awarded 1000 points. Every 0.33 second above or below this time will be worth 8 points.
  • Running: A time of 2 minutes 30 seconds in the 500 metre run will be awarded 1000 points. Every second above or below this time will be worth 12 points. A time of 4 minutes in the 1000 metre run will be awarded 1000 points. Every second above or below this time will be worth 8 points.
  • The Scottish School’s Biathlon series will be organised according to the UIPM World School’s Biathlon Rules. The age groups are shown in the table below together with the distances for each event.
